Within my digital portfolio I have included a wide range of work produced on the foundation course. It begins with a project that required us to investigate a personal space, I was asked to independently research and explore the possibilities in terms of potential outcomes. Researching and collecting inspiration is something I have always relished but ultimately I have learnt to absorb and use the world around me and allow it to influence my work. My grandfathers’ shed intrigued me and within it I uncovered a dusty, old set of drawers filled with rusty screws; nails and bolts that felt more like jewels, which inspired my screen prints.
The diagnostic work included reflects that I am comfortable working in 3D and model making. I have also selected examples of space, form, composition and perspective within a range of different media and processes to illustrate my interests. The pathway stage has directed me into exploring space through installation, spatial design based around obsession and confinement. I hope my portfolio reflects that I am open-minded and willing to experiment and explore different techniques. I believe this is key to move forward in the design world, being open to fresh ideas from all areas in art, design and beyond.
My decision to study at Manchester originated by recommendation from a friend and I consider it to be a high quality programme. However what excites me the most is the opportunity of placement and exchange especially the possibility of going to Australia as I have previously visited and have family there. The high rate into employment from Manchester Metropolitan is an important factor particularly due to the current climate and as a determined individual I believe Manchester will provide me with the opportunity to succeed.
